American Heart Month Guide

American Heart Month: Heart-Healthy Habits, CBD Safety, and What to Know

February is American Heart Month, a time to focus on the daily habits, medical checkups, and prevention steps that support cardiovascular health. Heart health is a serious topic, so it is important to rely on evidence-based guidance, qualified healthcare professionals, and clear product information when discussing supplements or hemp-derived products.

Many people ask whether CBD belongs in a heart-conscious wellness routine. This guide explains what American Heart Month is, which habits are best supported by public-health guidance, what to know about CBD safety, and why lab testing matters before choosing any hemp-derived product.

Safety-first note: CBD should not be used as a treatment for heart disease, high blood pressure, myocarditis, stroke, heart palpitations, or any cardiovascular condition.

A responsible American Heart Month page should center proven heart-health habits first, then explain CBD safety, medication interactions, product quality, and lab testing.

Quick Answer: Does CBD Support Heart Health?

CBD should not be used as a treatment for heart disease, high blood pressure, myocarditis, stroke, heart palpitations, or any cardiovascular condition. Research on CBD and cardiovascular health is still developing, and consumers should be careful with health claims that go beyond the evidence.

If you have a heart condition, take blood pressure medication, use blood thinners, take cholesterol medication, or manage any cardiovascular risk factor, speak with a qualified healthcare professional before using CBD.

Safety note: CBD can interact with medications and may cause side effects. Full-spectrum CBD may contain trace THC. Always review the certificate of analysis and product label before use.

What Is American Heart Month?

American Heart Month takes place each February and encourages individuals, families, workplaces, and communities to focus on heart-health awareness. Public-health organizations use the month to encourage prevention, education, CPR awareness, blood pressure awareness, and healthier daily habits.

Heart disease remains a leading public-health concern in the United States. That is why American Heart Month should be centered on proven steps such as medical checkups, blood pressure awareness, healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco avoidance, sleep, and working with healthcare professionals.

Heart-Healthy Habits to Focus on This Month

The strongest heart-health steps are not supplement claims. They are consistent habits and medical guidance that help people understand and reduce risk factors.

Where CBD Fits — and Where It Does Not

CBD is a hemp-derived compound that many people explore as part of a broader wellness routine. CBD itself is not intoxicating, but CBD products vary widely in quality, ingredients, THC content, serving size, and lab testing.

CBD should not be positioned as a heart-health treatment. It should not be used to replace medication, medical care, blood pressure management, nutrition, exercise, or professional guidance.

CBD Safety

CBD and Heart Medications: What to Know

Anyone taking heart-related medications should be especially careful with CBD. CBD can interact with some medications, and the FDA has warned that CBD can affect how other drugs work. This may increase side effects or change how a medication performs.

This is especially important for people who take blood thinners, blood pressure medications, cholesterol medications, antiarrhythmics, or multiple prescription medications.

Important: Do not stop, start, or change any heart medication because of CBD content online. Speak with your prescribing clinician or pharmacist before using CBD with heart-related medications.

How to Evaluate a CBD Product Responsibly

If someone chooses to use CBD, quality and transparency matter. Do not buy based on heart-health promises. Buy only after reviewing the label, ingredients, THC content, and lab results.

  • Is the product third-party lab tested?
  • Is there a batch-specific certificate of analysis?
  • Does the COA show CBD content?
  • Does the COA show THC content?
  • Does the COA test for heavy metals?
  • Does the COA test for pesticides?
  • Does the COA test for residual solvents?
  • Does the COA test for microbes or contaminants?
  • Is the serving size clear?
  • Are all ingredients listed?
  • Does the brand avoid disease-treatment claims?
  • Is there real customer support?
  • Does the company explain sourcing and production?
  • Is the product appropriate for your age, location, and intended use?

Full-Spectrum CBD, THC, and Drug-Test Considerations

Full-spectrum CBD products contain CBD along with other naturally occurring hemp compounds. They may also contain trace amounts of THC within legal limits. This is why consumers should review the certificate of analysis before using full-spectrum CBD.

Anyone subject to workplace, legal, athletic, or medical drug testing should use caution. Trace THC exposure may carry drug-test risk.

Frequently Asked Questions About CBD and Heart Health Month

Can CBD treat heart disease?

No. CBD should not be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent heart disease or any cardiovascular condition. Heart health should be managed with qualified healthcare professionals and evidence-based prevention steps.

Can CBD lower blood pressure?

Do not rely on CBD to lower blood pressure. If you have high blood pressure or take blood pressure medication, speak with a healthcare professional before using CBD.

Is CBD safe with heart medication?

CBD can interact with some medications. People taking blood thinners, blood pressure medication, cholesterol medication, antiarrhythmics, or multiple prescriptions should speak with a clinician or pharmacist before using CBD.

Why does lab testing matter for CBD?

Lab testing helps verify CBD content, THC content, and potential contaminants such as pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbes. Always review the certificate of analysis before buying.

Can full-spectrum CBD show up on a drug test?

Full-spectrum CBD may contain trace THC. THC exposure may carry drug-test risk, so anyone subject to testing should review lab results carefully and consider avoiding THC-containing products.

What should I focus on during American Heart Month?

Focus on evidence-based heart-health steps such as knowing your blood pressure, eating heart-supportive foods, moving more, avoiding tobacco, sleeping well, managing stress, and following medical guidance.

Does Bluegrass Hemp Oil claim CBD improves heart health?

No. Bluegrass Hemp Oil does not position CBD as a heart-health treatment. The company focuses on full-spectrum CBD education, product transparency, third-party lab testing, and responsible use.

Choose CBD With Transparency, Not Health Claims

American Heart Month is a good time to focus on proven heart-health habits and to review any supplements or hemp-derived products with care. CBD should not replace medical care, prescribed medication, or evidence-based heart-health guidance.

If you choose to explore CBD, start with product transparency: read the label, review the certificate of analysis, understand THC content, and speak with a healthcare professional if you take medications or have a medical condition.

PurposeLabel-first CBD oil education and safety guidance

What Is the Best Way to Take CBD Oil?

The best way to take CBD oil is to follow the product label, measure the serving carefully, use the same routine consistently, and review safety considerations before use.

Start with the label

Use the provided dropper or product-specific measuring tool, keep the bottle label accessible, and do not exceed labeled serving directions.

Do not copy someone else’s routine

Serving information helps customers understand the label. It should not be treated as medical dosing advice.

Review safety first

Ask a healthcare professional if medication, pregnancy, nursing, liver concerns, drug testing, or medical conditions apply.

Helpful next steps: Read the CBD product label guide and Review CBD medication interaction guidance.

How to Take CBD Oil Under Your Tongue

Many CBD oils are used by placing the labeled serving under the tongue before swallowing. Follow the product label for serving instructions. Some users hold CBD oil under the tongue briefly before swallowing, but product directions should always come first.

  1. 1Check the label

Shake the bottle only if the label instructs you to.

  2. 2Measure carefully

Measure the labeled serving using the product’s dropper or serving tool.

  3. 3Place under tongue

Place the serving under the tongue, hold briefly if directed or preferred, then swallow.

  4. 4Track consistency

Record timing, serving, food intake, and any side effects or concerns.

How Long Should You Hold CBD Oil Under Your Tongue?

Some CBD oil users hold the serving under the tongue briefly before swallowing. Follow the product label and avoid assuming that longer hold times guarantee better results. Consistency usually matters more than changing multiple variables at once.

Safety note: Do not exceed labeled serving directions. Longer hold time does not make CBD oil a treatment for any condition.

Should You Take CBD Oil With Food?

Food timing may affect how CBD is absorbed. For everyday use, the safest practical takeaway is consistency: choose a repeatable routine and avoid changing serving size, timing, and food intake all at once.

Choose a repeatable routine

For example, some adults prefer pairing CBD oil with breakfast or dinner.

Keep variables steady

Avoid changing serving size, timing, and food intake at the same time.

Ask when health factors apply

Medication, pregnancy, nursing, liver concerns, and medical conditions should be discussed with a clinician.

Label-first routine

Label-Based Serving Routine

Start with the product label. Do not exceed the labeled serving directions. If you are unsure whether CBD is appropriate for you or whether your serving should change, speak with a qualified healthcare professional.

Routine Step What to Track Why It Matters
Follow the label Serving amount and time Keeps use consistent.
Keep food timing consistent With food or without food Reduces routine variables.
Track side effects Drowsiness, digestion, appetite, and mood Supports safety awareness.
Review THC content Product label and Certificate of Analysis Important for full-spectrum products.
Ask a professional Medication, pregnancy, liver concerns, and medical conditions Reduces avoidable risk.

CBD Oil Safety and Medication Interactions

CBD may interact with prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, herbs, and supplements. It may also increase drowsiness when combined with alcohol or sedating drugs, and it may raise liver-safety concerns for some people.

  • Speak with a doctor or pharmacist before using CBD if you take blood thinners, seizure medications, heart medications, mood medications, sleep medications, sedatives, or multiple medications.
  • CBD may cause drowsiness, digestive changes, appetite changes, or mood changes.
  • CBD use during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended unless directed by a qualified healthcare professional.
  • Do not stop, reduce, or change medication without guidance from a licensed healthcare professional.

Safety resources: Review CBD medication interaction guidance and Read how long CBD may stay in your system.

Can Full-Spectrum CBD Oil Contain THC?

Yes. Full-spectrum CBD oil may contain trace THC within applicable hemp limits. THC content should be reviewed on the product label and Certificate of Analysis before use.

Hemp-derived does not mean THC-free

Confirm THC content before use, especially if you are avoiding THC.

Drug testing can matter

Trace THC may matter for workplace, athletic, professional, probation, or other testing.

Review the COA

Traveling With CBD: TSA Rules, Labels, COAs, and Safety Tips

Flying with CBD: TSA Rules, Legal Tips & Travel Guide (2026 Update)

A practical guide to flying with CBD oil, the current TSA CBD rules, the federal hemp threshold, carry-on liquid limits, Certificates of Analysis, and international travel cautions.

Written by Bluegrass Hemp Oil Editorial Team  ·  Reviewed against current TSA, USDA, FAA, FDA, and U.S. State Department guidance  ·  Updated August 6, 2026

Can You Bring CBD on a Plane?

For U.S. domestic travel, current TSA guidance permits cannabis-derived products in carry-on and checked bags when they contain no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis or are approved by the FDA, subject to special instructions and the final decision of the TSA officer. CBD oils, tinctures, creams, gels, and pastes in a carry-on must also follow the TSA 3-1-1 liquids rule: each container must be 3.4 ounces (100 mL) or less and fit in one quart-sized liquids bag.

That does not make every CBD product legal everywhere. Verify the product’s batch-specific Certificate of Analysis, keep it in original packaging, and check state, airline, airport, transit, and destination rules before flying.

Important Legal and Product Notice

This page is educational and is not legal or medical advice. Hemp-derived CBD that meets the federal hemp definition is different from marijuana and from products that exceed the federal THC threshold. A label or COA can support transparency, but it does not guarantee passage through security or legality in every state or country.

CBD can cause drowsiness, may affect the liver, and can interact with medications, alcohol, or other sedating products. Use only as directed and ask a qualified healthcare professional about personal safety before travel.

Two rules to check first

TSA Guidelines for Traveling with CBD

For domestic flights, travelers need to separate the product-law question from the carry-on packing question. A product may meet the federal hemp threshold and still need to comply with TSA liquid limits and destination laws.

1. The 0.3% Delta-9 THC Rule

Federal law defines hemp as Cannabis sativa L. and its derivatives containing no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis. TSA’s current cannabis guidance uses the same threshold and also allows FDA-approved products.

Products above that threshold, marijuana-derived products that remain unlawful under federal law, intoxicating hemp products, and products with unclear THC content create greater legal and screening risk. TSA officers focus on transportation security, but if they discover a substance that appears illegal, TSA states that the matter is referred to law enforcement.

Travel tip: Use the batch number on the package to open the matching Certificate of Analysis before you leave home.

2. The TSA 3-1-1 Liquids Rule for CBD

CBD oil, tinctures, lotions, creams, gels, roll-ons, and similar products in a carry-on are subject to the standard liquids, aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes rule. Each container must be 3.4 ounces (100 mL) or less, and the containers must fit in one quart-sized bag.

A 1-ounce Genesis Blend bottle is below the 100 mL carry-on limit. Larger liquids can generally go in checked baggage, but product legality, airline rules, leakage risk, and destination laws still apply.

CBD gummies and softgels are not liquids, so the 3-1-1 volume limit does not apply to those formats. They should still remain in original labeled packaging with accessible COA information.

Pack with documentation

How to Travel Safely with CBD: Your Pre-Flight Checklist

A COA and original package do not guarantee permission, but they make the product easier to identify and help you verify what you are packing.

  1. Verify that it is hemp-derived and within the federal THC threshold

Read the label and current batch COA. Confirm the product identity, extract type, batch number, and reported delta-9 THC result. Do not pack products with unclear labeling, no accessible testing, or intoxicating cannabinoid claims.

  2. Download or print the batch Certificate of Analysis

Open the Bluegrass Hemp Oil Certificates of Analysis page before departure. Save the matching report to your phone so it remains available without airport Wi-Fi, or carry a printed copy.

  3. Keep the product in its original packaging

Do not transfer CBD oil, gummies, softgels, or salve into an unlabeled container. Original packaging shows the product name, ingredients, serving information, batch or lot number, warnings, and manufacturer details.

  4. Check the laws for every destination and transit point

For domestic travel, check the departure state, destination state, and any layover location. For international travel, verify official destination-country, transit-country, customs, airline, and return-entry rules. When the rules are unclear, leave the CBD at home.

Travel-friendly formats

Best Bluegrass Hemp Oil Formats for Travel

Choose a format for clear labeling and easy packing—not as a treatment for travel stress, pain, sleep problems, or any medical condition. Full-spectrum products contain trace THC, so review the COA and destination rules before packing.

Genesis Blend 1 oz CBD Oil

The 1-ounce Genesis Blend bottle is approximately 30 mL, below the TSA 100 mL carry-on limit. It offers a clearly labeled dropper format made with Kentucky-grown, full-spectrum hemp extract.

  • 1 oz travel-size bottle
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract with trace THC
  • Original labeled packaging
  • Batch-specific COA access

Place it in your quart-sized liquids bag. Review medication, drowsiness, alcohol, and drug-testing considerations before use.

Explore Travel-Size CBD Oil

CBD Gummies and Softgels

Gummies and softgels are solid formats, so the TSA 3-1-1 liquids limit does not apply. Their pre-measured format avoids carrying a dropper or liquid bottle.

  • No liquid-bag volume limit
  • Pre-measured serving information
  • Portable original packaging
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract with trace THC

Keep them away from children and pets. Do not use CBD to self-treat flight anxiety, and do not combine it with alcohol or sedating products.

Shop Gummies & Softgels

Relieving Salve and Topicals

A small salve or topical can fit an external-use skin-care or massage routine after travel. Creams, gels, lotions, and pastes in carry-ons still count toward the TSA liquids rule.

  • Small external-use formats available
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract
  • Clearly listed ingredients
  • Batch-testing transparency

Do not apply to broken or irritated skin. Review the ingredient list for sensitivities and follow the package directions.

Explore Topical Balms

Avoid preventable delays and legal risk

What NOT to Do When Flying with CBD

Do not assume U.S. rules apply internationally

International CBD travel laws vary sharply. U.S. State Department guidance identifies countries where CBD is prohibited and penalties can include detention, fines, or imprisonment. Check official rules for the destination and every transit country. If you cannot confirm legality, do not pack CBD.

Do not pack CBD flower or unlabeled products

Hemp flower can look and smell like marijuana, which may create screening delays or law-enforcement referral even when a traveler believes it is compliant hemp. Avoid loose flower, homemade products, damaged labels, and containers with no batch information.

Do not overlook vape and battery rules

Electronic smoking devices and spare lithium batteries must remain on your person or in carry-on baggage, not checked baggage. Prevent accidental activation, do not use or charge the device onboard, and check airline limits. CBD vape products also raise separate legal and liquid-policy questions.

Lowest-risk choice: When product legality, documentation, destination rules, or airline policies are uncertain, leave the product at home and purchase a lawful product after arrival only if local rules permit it.

Common airport questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Flying with CBD

Will TSA confiscate my CBD oil?

Not automatically. TSA’s current guidance allows products containing no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis or FDA-approved products, subject to special instructions and officer discretion. TSA states that its screening procedures focus on security rather than searching for drugs. However, if an officer discovers a substance that appears illegal, TSA refers the matter to law enforcement. A product may be delayed, denied, or seized depending on its contents, documentation, packaging, and the applicable law.

Do I need to declare CBD at airport security?

TSA’s published domestic guidance does not describe a general CBD declaration process. Pack lawful products openly in original packaging, place carry-on oils or creams in the quart-sized liquids bag, and answer questions truthfully. Customs declarations, international entry rules, airline policies, and local laws may impose separate requirements.

Can I take CBD on an international flight?

Only after confirming that CBD is legal in the destination country, every transit country, the relevant airports, and the country of return. Some countries prohibit CBD even when it is hemp-derived, contains little or no THC, or is accompanied by a prescription. A U.S. label or Certificate of Analysis does not override foreign law. When the official rules are unclear, do not take CBD internationally.

Can I take my CBD during the flight?

Possession permission does not automatically answer whether onboard use is appropriate. Check the airline’s policy and use only a lawful product as directed. Smoking and vaping are prohibited onboard, and electronic smoking devices cannot be used or charged during the flight. CBD may cause drowsiness and can interact with medications, alcohol, and other sedating products, so avoid use when alertness is important and discuss personal safety with a healthcare professional.

Bluegrass Hemp Oil was founded when two dedicated parents refused to settle for anything less than the best care for their son and his constant epileptic seizures. After years of research, testing, and battling with Kentucky legislation, the Polyniak family found an answer in their full spectrum product--which has left their son seizure-free for 2556 days and counting! Because of our story behind improving Colten's quality of life and our relentless advocacy efforts for Kentucky farmers, we were one of the six companies to be granted permission to grow hemp in the Bluegrass state. We focused, specifically, on producing high-CBD hemp, thus leading us to having the honor of being the first CBD company of Kentucky. Ensuring that your CBD products are safe for you and your family is at the forefront of our minds, which is why we use an unparalleled hydrocarbon extraction method. Not only this, but we also offer our customers abundant product information and batch-specific lab results (from both our internal testing, as well as a third party verifier) to give you peace of mind about your CBD intake. Being the original CBD company of Kentucky, we take our commitment to your health seriously: if you have questions or concerns, we want to be the ones to help! Find our contact page to start up a discussion about our CBD, or get expert advice from our very own to help arm you for your holiday table discussion.

National Diabetes Month

National Diabetes Month

November is National Diabetes Month! Did you know that we have customers that use our Genesis Blend Extracts to combat their Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes symptoms? One member of our Genesis Blend family shared his personal experience with our Genesis Blend product: “I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 45 years, THIS product has made a significant impact on my comfort and control the past few years and would highly recommend to those who struggle.” - Windy Derrek, loyal customer. For those of you who were not already aware, if you have diabetes, adding a CBD routine to your daily schedule could offer incredible benefits! Studies show that full spectrum CBD could have extremely beneficial therapeutic potential those struggling with Type 2 Diabetes. One study in particular studied the effects on "cannabidiol (CBD) and... (THCV)... affecting lipid and glucose metabolism" concluding that THCV could have the potential to "represent a new therapeutic agent in glycemic control in subjects with type 2 diabetes" (Jadoon, et al., 2016).

CBD Test For Those With Type 2 Diabetes

For those of you with diabetes that want to try adding a full spectrum CBD into your everyday routine, here are a few steps to help you recognize the effects our extract may have on your blood sugar levels from our CBD experts:
  1. Check your blood sugar level.
  2. Take 1 full serving of Genesis Blend – Place oil under the tongue and let sit for 20-30 seconds before swallowing.
  3. Wait 45 minutes.
  4. Check your blood sugar level again!
  5. Record your results daily.

We suggest taking the above measures overall several consecutive weeks to see the effect that our Genesis Blend Hemp Extract has on your blood sugar levels! Tracking your progress in a calendar by repeating the above “test” is a fun way to keep tabs on your continued results. Remember that consistency is key when it comes to CBD, so try this method of daily tracking to help you determine your next steps!

A Family’s Full Spectrum Journey: Weeks 2 & 3

A Family’s Full Spectrum Journey: Weeks 2 & 3

These two weeks have been monumental for our full spectrum family, who is finally seeing some of the benefits that our Genesis Blend Hemp Extract offers.

David, the oldest this full spectrum family, is reportedly doing very well in school. Mom says that his teachers are having to give him new goals since he's achieving his current ones so quickly. Not only this, but, all-around, his mother has noticed an ease in his anxiety--both in school and at home.

Polly, eight-years-old and high in temper, still seems to be having some meltdowns; however, Mom says that she's been more amicable, listening well at home, following instructions, and playing better with her siblings. Rambunctious Eloise seems to be the same--she still enjoys pushing the buttons of all of her siblings and continues to packrat random trinkets in her room. Mom hopes that in the next week or two, she'll see a more notable change in her youngest daughter. Silas, our nonverbal five-year-old, is still a happy boy. While Mom hasn't noticed any distinguishable changes in mood, she admits that he takes his CBD oil (which this family purchases in our popular Bubblegum flavor) without complaint. When her children allow it, Mom still notes the exceptional sleep she's getting--just two weeks after starting her family's new CBD regimen. Her anxiety remains about the same, but her depression and joint pain has lessened. Just as we love to hear the results this family is finding in their home, we want to hear from you too! This is, after all, a community of friends and families who all share a common goal: to better their quality of life with a full spectrum CBD regimen. Feel like jumping on the CBD bandwagon? Head over to one of our Kentucky locations (in Lexington or Midway) or shop Bluegrass Hemp Oil online to get easy-access to all of our renowned, full spectrum Genesis Blend products.
