Why Aren’t More People Taking CBD?

Somewhere between 7% and 20% of Americans take CBD… So what’s keeping the rest from getting started?

CBD is on the rise in terms of both topics and treatments. You honestly see and hear about it almost everywhere. More and more people from all walks of life are embracing its therapeutic benefits; however, its use may not be as widespread as it seems. In an earlier 2019 report, Cowen & Co. suggested that only 7% of Americans used CBD – with 10% expected to use it by 2025.

Along those same lines, albeit with slightly higher results, a Gallup Poll from mid-2019 found that 14% of American adults were actively using CBD. Of these, 40% said they used CBD to treat pain symptoms, while 20% use it for anxiety, 11% for insomnia and 8% for pain symptoms, while 20%  symptoms, while 20% use it for anxiety, 11% for insomnia, and 8% use it for arthritis. Other reasons included Depression (2%), Stress (5%), Migraines/Headaches (5%), and General Health reasons (4%). The potential benefits are all over the board. It’s no surprise everyone is seemingly talking about it.

Full Spectrum Living With CBD by Bluegrass Hemp Oil
Full Spectrum Living Show Transcript

All right.

Welcome back to Full Spectrum Living with CBD.

I am Meredith Your Cohost.

And I am here today with Jessica and Adriane,

who are both with bluegrass hemp oil.

And today we were just having a conversation before

we we started recording this, and we were talking

about how many people are actually using CBD products

versus how much it's now available across the country

and why people aren't really stepping into this as

a solution or why people are kind of freaked

out or afraid to try these products.

And that was something that you

guys are both really passionate about.

So, Adriane, why do you think people are

not necessarily jumping in with both feet?

Yeah, it's so crazy.

So we've seen a couple of different

articles anywhere from 7% of the population

are taking CBD products upwards to 20%.

So somewhere in between, there

is probably the right answer.

But you're right, there's so many

other people that aren't taking it.

And there's a few things, I guess, Jessica and

we kind of talk about this a lot, and

we talk to customers all the time.

And first thing, I think they're just kind of nervous.

They're worried about the stigma.

Even though it has been around for a

few years, I think they're still worried about

what's my family going to think.

What are my kids going to think?

My mom, my physician, my employer.

We have consumers that probably still haven't told their

doctor that they're taking our products or actually talked

with a woman today who said she told her

son, but she hadn't told her daughter.

So again, it's that nervousness of people

thinking that they're doing something nefarious.

So do you think that that's like maybe just kind of

a cultural aftermath of how in just talking in the US,

we've been taught and brought up that if you're sick, you

go to the doctor and the doctor knows best and that

they're going to give you what's best.

But then you start looking at the statistics and

it's like doctors aren't even educated around this or

nutrition as well as you guys are?

I definitely think that's a huge factor.

I think there's a lot of reefer madness

stigma still hanging on, which is insane.

But we have people in their 50s, 60s, 70s who come

in and they kind of get a little thrill out of

their purchase there because even though they know logically this is

not an intoxicating product, this is a legal product, and it's

great for help with almost no side effects.

They still get this little jolt out of their

purchase sometimes with us, like they're doing something taboo

and it's just leftovers from the reefer bandits era.

I think when you talk about

physicians, I think it's very interesting.

So there are a lot of physicians

that will shake their finger at you.

If you say, I don't want a flu shot, so much

less you say, hey, I want to take this natural holistic

product instead of the Pharmaceuticals instead of the pain meds.

Actually, more and more physicians, excuse me,

are getting on board with it.

So I don't want to throw them all under that same bus.

But there still are quite a few

that will absolutely not support CBD.

So you can understand why consumers may

be a little nervous and getting started.

You've got people like my father, who is a

veteran, who I think it would be life changing

for him in many ways to take our product.

And his fear is that he'll lose

his veteran benefits by taking our product.

Even though we know that's not true and we

know that we have clients who take it with

no issues through the VA and it's approved and

all of that, he's still really concerned.

So there's just a lot of leftover fear, I think.

But we've been taught fear around the

cannabis plant for a long time.

So it takes a while to unteach that, I think. Yeah.

Well, that's why we're here, though, right?

I mean, that's what you are

wanting to create with the show.

So what other reasons do people have?

So maybe there's a stigma around it, but what

else is keeping people from giving it a shot?

I think a lot of people

probably think it's snake oil, right.

Too good to be true.

Probably they may have tried a product

and it didn't work for them.

So they're just like, yeah, it's the next best thing.

It'll be gone just as quickly as it got here.

You always hear these new whether it's new essential

oils or celery juice or all these fads that,

yes, are definitely beneficial in their own right.

But to have that level of response that

we're seeing from consumers and all of the

studies that you can find on PubMed.

Gov with regards to cannabis and cannabinoids as

a treatment, as a viable treatment for these

conditions, it's a little different, right?

Yeah, I think that there's definitely

some snake oil to it.

So let me ask you something.

Sorry, Jessica, but just real quick, how long has

CBD been utilized for the things that you see

your customers and clients utilizing it for?

Well, so that's a great question.

So the endocannabinoid system.

And Jessica, correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it was discovered in the 90s.

Yes, discovered in the 90s.

And actually CBD was actually isolated and found

and discovered before THC was fun fact.

So it's definitely been there.

But a lot of the studies were focused on

the THC aspect because of its intoxicating factor.

Right.

That's what everybody wanted to figure out.

So CBD kind of took maybe a backseat to it.

So I'd say probably here more.

So within the last 20 years, what we've seen on PubMed.

Gov, which is the US Library of Medicine,

there's over 24,000 studies done on cannabis and

cannabinoids just within the last 20 years, that's

over three and a half studies per day.

So when they talk about there's not enough

studies to support the fact that cannabis or

cannabinoids are beneficial for this condition, that condition

called BS, to be perfectly honest, there may

not be 250 studies on one particular condition,

which may be what everybody wants.

But there's definitely enough studies out there

that are rooted in autoimmune or in

inflammatory conditions that are, in my opinion,

my professional opinion, definitely enough. Right.

For people to have some trust

in some faith in quality products.

That's the thing in quality products.

And combined with the information that does exist in

the research that has been done, combined with the

amount of anecdotal evidence that we're seeing now that

so many people are taking it's just really undeniable.

I think where the snake oil thing comes into play

is where it's maybe talked about in such an unrealistic

frame, like it will do this and it will do

that and it will fix every single thing.

I think that's easy to fall into.

Well, it must be snake oil,

because obviously that can't be true.

And so I think it's a matter of reframing how

we speak about it, because it could do all of

those things we don't know, particularly if it will do

every single thing for one person, although for some people

it has so many different ways where you see benefit,

but for others, it's one or two ways.

And that's still great.

So I think it's reframing how we speak about it

as well and the claims that are being made. Right.

I think that that's where they may have tried a product

and they may not be taking it today, but maybe they

tried one and it really has to look at.

Okay, so let's have a conversation

about what product you tried.

Where did you get it?

Was it bought in a convenience

store shelf or via Amazon?

Did you get it from a trusted source

where you know who's cultivating your plants, where

the plants came from, how was it extracted?

There are so many questions that again, when you go

and buy a bottle of shampoo on the shelf, you

don't ever have to ask yourself, right, you're just going

to go, I'm going to buy it. I've seen the commercial.

It's great.

Or if it's a pharmaceutical,

the physician prescribed it.

I know it's been this, that or whatever.

So, yeah, I know it's fine to take with CBD.

Again, it is kind of the wild while west out

there with products, but it really requires the consumer to

kind of educate themselves on what it is.

And then two also give it a fair shake.

There's a lot of people again, I think we are struck

with this Western Pharmacopia where I'm going to take a pill

and I'm going to feel better within an hour or two.

And with CBD, the way that it works within our

bodies, it doesn't necessarily act that way for everybody.

Now, I personally take it from migraines.

And I do see relief probably

almost immediately in that sense.

So from like a 15 to 20 minutes, which is fantastic.

But I also take it for arthritis does

not work the same way for my arthritis.

So it's really giving it a true test. Right.

So Jessica, she always talks about Page and how

it took two months, I believe, two months for

Page to actually see the benefits of CBD, two

really long months of us at that time.

When we started her on CBD, it was five years ago,

and no one was taking it, hardly at that time.

And so her psychiatrist was really concerned

and she called Child Protective Services honest.

And of course, that was immediately dismissed.

It's a legal product to give her.

But I think that, of course, would scare

any parent that that could possibly happen.

And they have to defend their choices and

have someone looking at that in that way.

For two months, we're sitting here thinking like,

oh, my gosh, we got CPS called on

us and we're taking her off of Pharmaceuticals,

and we don't even see that it's working.

And then it was boom, like a light switch

flipped or something because we just started seeing one

sign after another that things were improving and it

just continues to improve here still five years later.

So let me ask you this, like, you kind of alluded to

it a little bit, but I think it's like anything, right?

There are people who do good, and

then there are people who do a

disservice in any industry around any product.

I think the Internet is kind of

like actually helping us to see that. Right?

There's good information, there's mediocre

information, there's poor information.

But it must be seen with

the product quality here, too, right?

Like, if I can buy something on a drugstore

shelf, if I can buy something on Amazon and

I can buy something from you guys or other

high quality producers of different types of products, what

should consumers knowledge around that really be? Right?

Are all those things the same, or is there

a big difference between what I get at the

drugstore versus what I can buy from you guys?

There actually is.

And we can definitely I mean, that's a whole other

episode in and of itself, to be perfectly honest, like

things to look out and to check for.

But there's been a lot of independent studies.

There's been a lot of investigative reporting that some

news outlets have done, and they've taken products off

the shelf and they've sent them off for testing.

And the sad thing is there will be

numbers that are on the front of the

bottle claiming so many milligrams of CBD.

And whenever the test comes

back, there's nothing in there.

It's premium price.

And so no CBD or the level of CBD

that's supposed to be in there isn't in there.

Or it will actually will

test positive for toxic chemicals.

There's so many things that consumers you really

do have to do your research with this.

And I know everybody.

If you do want to try it, if you're deciding

to jump out of that not taking CBD into the

taking CBD bucket, you want to do your research. Right.

You want to be able to feel comfortable with

the people and the product that you're purchasing.

And honestly, word of mouth is the best way to go.

Right.

So talk to your friends that are taking it.

There are more out there than what you think.

Absolutely.

So it's really important then that the consumer

understand where their product is coming from.

Because what you're saying is

there's not regulation around this.

It's not like it's not like food. Right.

I think the biggest thing to that is if I could

say one thing is Amazon does not sell CBD products.

They are labeled to make you think that they are

CBD products, but they are not their hemp seed oil.

And the labeling is intentionally misleading.

It's the big issue that's very well known, and

a lot of people still fall for it because

it's cheaper than a quality CBD product would be.

But it's a hell of a lot more expensive than

hemp seed oil would be in a 1oz container.

You could get a stinking gallon of it

for the price that you'll pay on Amazon.

And that's what you're getting is hemp seed oil.

That's been intentionally mislabeled to appear to be a

CBD product, and they don't sell CBD on Amazon. Right.

So if people are a little bit freaked out because

of maybe the cultural view, maybe they also feel like

that you're saying it's a little bit of this snake

oils is too good to be true.

Could it really work because of people that may be

having over promised in the industry or their experiences?

What else are you guys seeing that is preventing

people from working with CBD products as a solution?

Yeah.

I think there's some people that just don't

realize the way that it could impact them.

So they think, like, I don't have severe

epilepsy or I don't have intense chronic pain

or medication is working for me.

But what they don't realize is that the

benefits of CBD goes far beyond that.

They're extremely beneficial for preventative, just

maintenance of the body, I guess.

So just by taking CBD regularly, you can

increase your body's ability to fight off toxins

from the environment and to calm inflammation in

the neurological system and potentially avoid neurodegenerative conditions

like Parkinson's or Alzheimer's.

We're still studying that, and that's

not a claim that I'm making.

It's just the potential that

looks promising for taking CBD.

There's been a couple of quality studies related to

that, and it looks like for the average person,

taking it preventatively is going to be more and

more a common use of CBD and just maintaining

balance in the body more optimally.

We all succumb to stressors and to cold and

fluid, but your ability to fight those off is

thought to be enhanced by CBD supplementation.

I know, like, when I take it regularly,

my whole family has come down with a

stomach bug, and I'm totally fine.

And that's happened twice.

And I'll say last year, I guess if you call

it an independent study where we were all in store.

So before we had moved our office

spaces, we office behind our retail location.

So we had a lot of people mulling in

and around the store middle of flu season.

We had customers coming in with flu.

We wiped things down and so forth.

But none of the employees got a flu shot,

and none of us also got the flu.

So I'm not saying that it can keep the

flu away, but I'm saying it helped us.

We are strong believers that it really did help our

immune system to be in prime fighting position against all

the germs that we were just being inundated with or

even when they're actively I think people don't associate CBD

use with a stomach bug or flu or something.

But I've used it for my son.

And back two days ago, he woke up in the

middle of the night rolling around with an upset stomach.

And I gave him a few drops.

And 1520 minutes later, he went to

sleep peacefully, and he was totally fine.

And so I think there's just uses that people

don't recognize for CBD that would very much benefit

them that they're just not really aware of yet.

That's fascinating, because I don't think that people think about

it for prevention as much as they we've heard so

much in the media, amazing stories like the ones that

you guys have shared with us here about people that

have had massive sea changes in really severe conditions that

were impairing their lives in really significant ways and the

lives of their family.

But I don't think that we've yet come to

think about it as a preventative so much.

It's making me think of a baby aspirin honestly, right

back in the day, aspirin was, like, sold out of

little special little vials by kind of a witch doctory

guy in the Old West or whatever.

Then it becomes largely accepted for

headache relief or for pain relief.

And now it's prescribed to help people

in stroke and like, heart attack prevention.

I think it is. Right.

Like they carry this little vial of it. Yes, ma'am.

Yeah. The baby aspirin.

And it's like but 100 years ago, man, I don't know.

Or maybe 200 years ago, whenever it was, we

wouldn't have admitted that we had that little Brown

vial with a Cork in our handbag. Right.

What's so interesting is then you think about that.

And then 40% give or take of medications back

in those olden days had a cannabis derivative. Right.

So then you think about you went from cannabis,

being part of a widely accepted pharmaceutical regimen or

therapeutic regimen and flip that to reefer madness years.

You get to the 1930s, and then they have

to have some bad guy that they're going after

80 years of prohibition to where we are today. Right.

Where we're trying to beat that stigma, to bring it back

to just a normal way to kind of help fight symptoms.

When you think of someone that you have worked

with, it's been like your ultimate skeptic, right.

That may be presented with one of these reasons for not

doing it and is

now just like a raving fan.

Do you have somebody like that that you can think of?I was going to say for a while there's

probably every consumer that walks in her I've heard

this will help, but come on, kind of reaction.

We had a gentleman, actually, who came in store, and

I don't necessarily know that he meets this criteria, but

he came in store and he bought it.

He said the arthritis in his ankle, it hurts so bad.

And we told him it's going to take time.

You have to give it his true test.

You can't just give up after a few days.

And he came in on day 30 and he said it was day 29.

I was so angry because my ankle was still killing me.

I was taking this product. It wasn't working.

He said, I knew I was going to come in today

and I was just going to talk to you about it.

And he said, and then I woke up and I

got out of bed and my ankle didn't hurt.

And I was like, yes.

So again, it's just those things.

Everybody sees relief at different times.

And he's an advocate for it.

I think Jessica actually talked with a veteran who

had, what was it, seven years of headaches?

Well, that's the story I was wanting to tell, actually.

That definitely sticks out in my mind because, yes,

I talked to him both in store and on

the phone, and he was certainly a skeptic.

We talked on the phone at length a few

times before he came in, and he had seven

years of chronic migraines that were extremely severe.

He ranked as eleven on the one to ten pain scale.

And he had zero days of relief in those seven years.

And so he was really at the

end of his will to continue.

And it was really powerful because he came

in the store after talking for a while.

It was still extremely kind of just

skeptical, I guess is the word.

And so I could see he was in pain.

I gave him a sample in store and before

he had left, his headache had gone down.

I think he said it was like

an eight or something like that.

And so for him, that was already a big deal.

And then when he got home, he called to let me

know his headache was gone for the first time in seven

years, day one and he maintained a headache free self.

He was headache free.

I can't honestly say if he's still headache free,

but I talked to him months and months afterwards

and he was still headache free at that point.

And I know he's still a recurring

customer who comes in, who orders online.

And the amount of relief that it provided him

immediately, it was a really powerful thing to witness

and it was really changing for him.

He was facing just giving up on life

and that really brought back everything for him. Well.

And that just makes me think about

the perspective of what if, right?

What if it does work?

What if it does?

So thank you both for just sharing such awesome information

today around some of these stigmas and helping people to

maybe break those down a little bit so that they

can live a better quality of life.

Because I think that's the goal, right?

That's really what you're trying to do here is share

great information with people so that they can consider whether

or not this might be an option that they would

allow to help them in their lives.

So if people wanted to connect with you further,

get more information, hear more about your knowledge, your

products, all of that, what would be the best

place for them to go and find out more?

Yeah, absolutely.

Go to our website@bluegrassandboyle.com, we

That's what they're there for.

Yeah, read some of the oh, gosh,

I'm blanking on the word blog.

Yeah, well, definitely read the blog.

Those are fantastic and really address

some of the frequently asked questions.

But the consumer reviews, I think a lot

of people read the reviews and they see

in that person something that reflects themselves and

it really strikes home for them.

So I think read the reviews.

They really speak for themselves. Yeah. Awesome.

Our Personal CBD Oil Story

Nothing prepares parents for the first crisis that involves their child. Nevertheless,  Since day one, Colten had given us a run for our money. Two extra digits on his right foot (What?! Yes. It was the craziest little foot, but it was still adorable), a week-long stay in ICU 4 days after birth while he lounged under lights, and we prayed for him to eat. Nothing with him went according to plan. Looking back now, I’m glad it didn’t. Because it was our plan, he wouldn’t adhere to it. God had another.

In January 2009, at age 3, Colten had his first tonic-clonic seizure while on the stairs with his brother, Gunner (6), and our Great Dane pup, Angus.

boys and their dog<— That’s them!! (a few weeks before the first seizure.) Adorable, weren’t they?

Hearing the fall followed by Gunner’s yell, running in, and seeing Colten… No. Words. Can. Describe. We aren’t the first parents to see something like this, and sadly won’t we be the last. But needless to say, this scared everyone. Bill went into rescue mode doing all the things one shouldn’t do with someone mid-seizure. I called 911 and freaked out on the operator. Understandably, Gunner ran and hid. (Poor guy.) We weren’t prepared for that day. Thankfully, the EMTs were. Excellent is a word I often use to describe them, and it doesn’t do them justice.

At the hospital, we answer all the doctor’s questions except one. Did the seizure cause the fall, or did the fall cause the seizure? Until that moment, we hadn’t given it any thought. In our minds, the fall caused the seizure. What do you mean? Are you saying this could happen again? READ MORE HERE

Colten still to this day is seizure and pharmaceutical free. Perhaps, just as our founders once were, you’re here looking for a better way of life for you or your family. Here, we hope to inspire another’s journey while championing the use of CBD for epilepsy.

Not only are there numerous potential benefits from a daily CBD routine for those diagnosed with epilepsy, but the same amount of possible benefits lay ahead for those who seek the entire spectrum balance that our Genesis Blend Hemp Extract provides–whether you have a pre-existing condition, or you’re just looking to boost your immune system!

The Polyniaks aren’t the only ones to try their hand at experimenting with CBD to fix their son’s recurrent seizures. Several studies have proven the benefits of CBD for patients with epilepsy. With even more advanced research on the way, more and more doctors are suggesting it as an alternative supplement to combat frequent convulsions. Many studies have demonstrated CBD’s neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects, proving a direct correlation between CBD usage and anticonvulsant properties to minimize seizures. READ MORE HERE

Full Spectrum Living With CBD by Bluegrass Hemp Oil
Full Spectrum Living Show Ep1 Transcript

All right.

Welcome, everyone, to the first episode

of Full Spectrum Living with CBD.

I'm Meredith Your Cohost.

And I am here with Jessica

joining us from Spokane, Washington.

And Adraine joining us from Lexington, Kentucky.

I'm so excited to be on this call

with you guys today on this episode.

It's awesome.

So I thought we would start off today by

talking a little bit about your story and how

you came to work with CBD and Hemp.

So, Adriane, maybe you want to kind of

give us a little bit of the background.

Yeah, absolutely.

It was by sheer need, to be perfectly honest.

So our son at age three had his first

seizure, and it caught us completely by surprise.

My husband and I were in the kitchen on a

really snowy, icy day, making breakfast, going

about our day.

And we heard our oldest son, who was six

at the time, he just kind of yelled out.

And he was like, mom, Colton fell down.

And so not knowing what was going on, we ran over and

we see him face down in front of the front door.

And he was seizing.

We never seen anything like it.

It scared the daylight.

We did everything wrong.

My husband put his fingers in his mouth.

All the things that now they caution you not

to do with people who are having a seizure.

Our six year old went in head.

He was frightened.

I'm on the phone with paramedics

and firefighters, just in tears.

And so we got him to the hospital.

They start doing tests on them, and they

asked the question, did the fall cause the

seizure or did the seizure cause the fall?

Honestly, we didn't know.

I mean, it was the first thing that we've seen.

We hoped it was going to be the last.

And unfortunately, it wasn't.

He very quickly progressed from one seizure to hundreds within

that week and had no idea what was going on.

And so we went on this

pharmaceutical Roulette, and we started trying

all different types of pharmaceutical products.

And with those came so many side effects.

The first being rage to the point where my husband and

I wanted to get a shirt for him that said, trust

us, it's because he's medicated, because it really looks like he

was just a child who was completely out of control.

We used to call him the Incredible Hulk, and

he was very mild mannered and happy before.

And he just got really aggressive.

And then from there, we tried

other medications that led to cognitive

delays, inability to regulate body temperature.

He stopped smiling.

And that still to this day, brings tears to my

eyes because you don't realize how much that is a

huge part of who your child is until it's gone,

until you can't see it, until you can't experience it.

And so we started looking for better options.

We thought, this is crazy.

One time we got them within hours of organ failure.

So we had to stop all Pharmaceuticals immediately,

which is harmful in and of itself.

And so we started looking.

We tried ketogenic diets, and then we found

cannabis that doesn't get you high, right.

People were moving their kids across the country

to medical marijuana States looking for this product,

this marijuana that doesn't get you high.

So in our research, honestly, my husband,

I credit all that to him.

His reading and researching and really looking

into things that's when he found out

that it's not marijuana, it's him.

So we started advocating for the legalization

here within the state of Kentucky.

We didn't want to uproot our family

and move across the United States.

Of course, more power to those parents who do that.

But we wanted to effect change here.

And so we did.

And because of that, when hemp was legalized in

2013 here in Kentucky, followed up by the federal

farm Bill of 2014, we started farming hemp.

We were one of the original companies

given a program to farm in 2014.

But fast forward to today.

There's so much stuff that goes in between there.

But fast forward today. Our son, Colten.

He's now seizure free.

He's Pharma free.

He just takes our products.

He's able to play sports that he wants to.

He can sweat and regulate his body temperature.

He's right on grade level.

He is a very normal, healthy, fully

functioning 14 year old stinky boy.

That's incredible.

That must have been such an emotional ride for you

guys to go through all of that and to not

be able to have somebody provide you with a solution.

It was really scary.

And we started looking and

reaching out to other parents.

And sadly, people talk about CBD

being the wild, wild west now.

And yes, I'll agree with them to some point,

but he was even more so then parents were

being shipped products that were like 100% straight THC

or that had absolutely no CBD or therapeutic properties,

or they were just having their money taken and

not receiving any product at all.

So we wanted money as well.

The pricing then was a lot higher. Absolutely.

So we wanted to be that safe place for

parents, and then it's just grown beyond that.

That's an incredible, incredible story.

And I'm so glad it sounds like you have

so much knowledge and such a heart for what

hemp is really able to do for people.

And we're going to talk in a little bit about

the show and what you're hoping to create here and

why people are going to want to tune in.

But first, let's hear from Jessica how you

got involved with bluegrass hemp and exactly what

it is that brought you to this opportunity. Sure. Yeah.

So another personal story.

Adriane kind of touched on some families that moved

to Colorado to find treatments for their kids.

And we were borderline almost one of those families.

So my sister in law, who is now 16, her name is Paige.

She was essentially one of the first clients of

Bluegrass Hemp Oil, and it was basically with Paige.

She has autism spectrum disorder.

And really at the time, years ago, violent rages that were

three or four times a day, I mean, at least.

And the intensity of those wages got to a point

where we were really fearful of what happens when she's

a teenager, when she is bigger than her mom, who

is a petite person, and we already at age six,

seven, eight, we're really struggling to maintain her behaviors and

keep her from hurting herself or us going to really

extreme lengths to try and keep her safe.

But it was just seemed like such an uphill battle

that we honestly were just really desperate for anything.

We had gone the pharmaceutical route as well.

And I think our point of kind of realizing something

just wasn't right was she had the rage naturally.

But a lot of the Pharmaceuticals brought

out wages even more so for her.

She lost her smile, too.

You would walk in the room and she didn't even respond.

It was just she didn't register that

anyone was even there half the time.

And so we took her to a psychiatrist appointment one day,

and she literally pulled out a list of Pharmaceuticals and read

all of them and asked, have you tried this?

Have you tried that?

And we had tried every single option on her list.

And at that point, we just said, forget it.

And these Pharmaceuticals have brought

out the worst in her.

We still battle the rages, and now we

battle the side effects like weight gain or

nausea or just so many different things.

We got desperate as well and temporarily went out

to Colorado to be with some family members there

to try our hand at obtaining cannabis for her.

And we weren't familiar with the alternatives.

And needless to say, that just didn't go well.

It wasn't a good suit for her at the time.

We came back and advocated when we found out

that hemp was an option and started advocating.

And my family met the Adriane and Bill, the owners.

And it was just kind of a

journey from there to fast forward.

It took about two months to see results per Page.

Once we were able to actually get a product, which

Adriane mentioned, we had one of the first licenses.

We also have one of the first products.

And that was a really big deal at the time

because there was a lot of stalling from certain companies

to try and influence the market, and we needed it.

So we have one of the first

products Pages, one of the first clients.

And five years later, she's

pharmaceutical free as well.

She's had one rage in five years,

one single rage in five years.

She's fully verbal.

She potty trained herself in two months, which

was astonishing because we had basically given up

on that, didn't think it would be possible.

She smiles and she laughs and she's very crazy,

and she's got friends and she's got hobbies and

she loves animals and she has a quality of

life that we knew was not an option.

At one point, we just knew

that wasn't an option for her.

And now it is.

And it's just been a lifesaver for

not just her, but the entire family.

I mean, I was a hired bodyguard,

essentially, for her to assist her full

time to keep her from hurting herself.

And so anyways, it's impacted not just her

life, but mine and everyone in the family.

And we're just grateful for BHO.

Yeah, that's incredible.

And I think I don't even probably really need to ask why

you guys want to have this podcast, why you want to have

this show, but I want to hear it in your own words.

So what are you hoping to share here as we record

these and as we share them with people in the community?

What do you have that you're so excited about?

Honestly, I just want to bring answers to people.

There are so many questions.

We have two retail locations, and we talk

to consumers on the phone all day, every

day, or even on the streets.

And honestly, the questions are pretty much the same,

but they do get more and more details.

And a lot of the information that you

can find on the Internet is very confusing.

It's meant to be confusing, honestly.

Some of it, in our opinion, leaves consumers in

the wrong way and in the wrong direction.

So honestly just kind of a safe place for

people to come and listen to hear why we

do things the way that we do.

Not necessarily.

They don't have to go and go to

our website and buy, of course, Hallelujah.

That'd be fantastic.

We love that.

But to at least educate them in their purchases. Right.

So that they know exactly where they're

putting their hard earned money and what

expectations they can put on a product.

I'd like to add to that.

I really think hope as well is a big

thing, because for families who have been in our

situation, it feels really discouraging for the future and

to be able to provide more access and more

information and more resource to people because we know

how dramatic it can improve some people's lives.

And there's a lot more out there

that it could do that for them.

And they haven't tried it yet

because of fear or confusion.

And so I know that our stories are

not at all the only ones that's profound.

And so I think it's a really good time to be

in the industry, to be able to share this with people.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to hearing more

of those stories because I know you

guys just have helped so many people.

So tell me, who's a good candidate for hemp products?

Who's a good candidate for the remedies and the

things that you all have come up with.

Who are you helping?

I mean, honestly, I'd say anybody and everybody, whether you

have a symptom or a condition that you are looking

to seek relief from or if you're just looking to

prevent the onset of symptoms or a condition that may

be in your family, I think everybody is kind of

a good person to try a CBD.

Everybody has an endocannabinoid system

and it can fluctuate.

So why not?

It's not going to hurt you.

You may find that you're sleeping better or that you're

just a happier person, even if you don't have a

condition that has very rooted in inflammation or autoimmune.

I certainly agree.

I think when we first started out on this

journey, it was looking for those who were ill

and that other options had let down.

But the longer we've been studying what happens and

why it happens, the more encouraged I am just

to suggest everyone I know should try it and

take it for preventative means, if nothing else, because

I think everyone has at least some stress management

issues from time to time.

And for that, it's extremely helpful.

But also as a neuro protectant its ability to

help fight off potential Alzheimer's dementia conditions is being

really well documented and studied right now and looks

to be like a great reason that everyone should

take this product, just protect yourself and your neurological

system from the environment.

So if I'm understanding you guys right, there's like

a kind of a remedy or treatment component, but

then there's also a huge prevention component, and we'll

have plenty of time to dive into that.

But I don't know that I knew that. Right.

I don't know that that was something

that I knew coming to this.

And I know I'm going to learn so much from both of you.

Maybe you can just really quickly

kind of give us hemp 101.

What's the difference between hemp and

what's the difference between marijuana?

What's the difference between marijuana and its

ability to get you high and hemp?

And it's not going to have happen.

I mean, are there just some basics that would be really

helpful for people to know that you guys can share?

Sure. Yeah.

Adriane, do you mind? Go ahead.

I'm like feeling encouraged.

Meredith and I live in a legal state where

there's full access to cannabis of all kinds here.

And I think that it's kind of interesting

to use that perspective to explain it.

But basically it's not like a hemp or marijuana.

I think it's cannabis.

And cannabis comes in many different forms.

And we specialize in the low THC cannabis variety that

is, of course, called hemp, and it's more dominant in

a particular cannabinoid called can have a dial.

So it's really rich in CBD, and that's cannabidiol

it's got trace amounts of other active cannabinoids.

And it really mimics cannabis.

Marijuana in many ways, but essentially

just it's all the same.

It just depends on how you grow it. And within.

There's many different genetic varieties.

But when you consume a product that's richer in

CBD than THC, then most likely it's not going

to provide any altering experience, especially when you have

one like ours that attempt to arrive that has

only trace amounts of THC.

That just doesn't get you high, doesn't impair you.

There's debate on how you use the

term non psychoactive because it does have

anti anxiety and antidepressant effects.

And so that's psychoactivity, but it's

not intoxication and it's not impairment.

It doesn't impact your ability to think critically

or operate machinery or anything like that.

So with a high CBD strain,

you don't get that impairment.

And that's often one of the

first questions that we get.

And it really just offers the body support through

one of your key systems, the endocannabinoid system.

And in supporting that system, you can

often achieve balance in the body, and

that can result in reduce autoimmune symptoms

or reduce anxiety or depression, improve sleep,

reduce pain, decrease digestive discomfort or nausea.

There's just a lot that it does for the

body because it's just promoting your internal regulator, which

is the endocannabinoid system, to function better.

So it's really just a support system

to help your body help itself.

And that, in turn, means there's a lot

of benefits for a lot of people. Awesome.

So, Jessica, you have a ton of knowledge.

It's just really coming to light right

now and expertise in this area.

So how have you developed that over time?

Like, what has helped you to become so knowledgeable

about these products and how they help people?

Personal interest is one probably, yeah.

So I lived in Colorado years ago,

right after decriminalization there, whatever it was.

And so that kind of sparked interest.

And I have a health background study, physical

therapy, and worked in healthcare for ten years.

And I think just the merging of

those two interests, I don't know.

I saw how it worked and my sister, and

it was just kind of a curiosity from then.

But I've been really fortunate that Adriane has supported that

learning as well by sending me two different courses, which

Adriane also is a big expert on this.

I mean, she certainly is.

So we've gone through courses intended for cannabis

medical professionals, and we've gone to conferences.

We'll be going to a conference next month,

international one for cannabis as medicine, and enrolled

in some online courses, a healer training program,

which has been really beneficial.

And then just reading and learning and

growing, and it's been years of that.

So it kind of accumulates over time.

That's awesome.

So if someone wanted to know a little bit more

about your work and what you're doing with bluegrass hemp

oil, where would they go to find that information? Yeah.

So definitely go to

our website, www.bluegrasshempoil.com.

You can find we have a blog post there.

We like to post studies and

just kind of really educate people.

Facebook is also a place where

we're really active and Instagram.

So Instagram is going to be more pretty pictures.

We're going to try to get you with funny memes.

Of course it's Instagram, but Facebook will post

studies or articles that we find interesting and

we really try to encourage people to get

involved, to get engaged and ask us questions

because a lot of consumers, they may have

questions that we haven't even thought of ourselves.

So again, to your point, how

do we keeping ourselves educated?

It's through that it's through the continuous questioning of

whether it's the consumers or ourselves or the great

team that we have here within our own company. Awesome.

Well, I think it's going to be fantastic

to just share with you guys each week.

So we're going to have an episode every single

week of this show that's going to allow people

to just tap into your knowledge and all the

information that you've got out there to share.

And I'm excited to get onto those next episodes and

just learn all about this industry and all about how

CBD can really help so many of us.

So thank you both.

It's been awesome sharing with you today.

And again, Meredith, the co-host of Full Spectrum Living

with CBD are two hosts here, Jessica and Adriane.

So until the next time.

See you. Bye.

How to Choose the Best CBD Pet Oil for Your Dog or Cat

When you're choosing CBD pet oil for your furry friend, understanding the differences between full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate is essential.

You'll also want to take into account the carrier oils used, as ingredients like wild-caught salmon oil can enhance the benefits.

Plus, knowing how to read lab reports and the importance of third-party testing will guarantee you're picking a safe and effective product.

Full-Spectrum vs. Broad-Spectrum vs. Isolate – Which Is Best for Pets?

How can you determine the best CBD pet oil for your furry friend? Choosing between full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate options can be tricky.

Full-spectrum products offer a range of cannabinoids, providing full spectrum benefits for your pet's health. They also comply with CBD product regulations, ensuring safety.

Here are some tips to guide your choice:

  • Look for hemp oil sources that are organic and high-quality.
  • Consult dosage guidelines to find the right amount for your pet's size and needs.
  • Stay informed on pet health trends to understand what works best for others.

With the right product, you'll be contributing to your pet's well-being, ensuring they feel their best every day.

The Role of Carrier Oils – Why Ingredients Like Wild-Caught Salmon Oil Matter

Choosing the right CBD pet oil for your furry friend goes beyond just the CBD content; the role of carrier oils is equally important. Carrier oil benefits enhance absorption and provide essential nutrients.

Wild-caught salmon oil, for instance, offers incredible salmon oil advantages, including omega-3 fatty acids that boost your pet's overall health.

When considering ingredient sourcing, opt for high-quality oils extracted using safe oil extraction methods to guarantee purity. These factors contribute to the nutritional value of the product, guaranteeing your pet receives the best possible support.

Understanding Lab Reports – How to Read COAs for Pet CBD Products

Steering through the world of CBD pet products can feel overwhelming, especially with so many options available.

To guarantee you're making the right choice, understanding lab report basics is essential. Interpreting COAs (Certificates of Analysis) helps you verify quality and safety.

Look for:

  • Safety standards
: Verify the product meets regulatory requirements.
  • Ingredient transparency
: Check for a full list of ingredients and their sources.
  • Dosage guidelines
: See recommended dosages for different pet sizes.

Why Third-Party Testing Is Essential for Safety and Purity

What About Cats?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CBD Pet Oil Safe for All Pets?

CBD pet oil may be appropriate for some pets, but it is not a one-size-fits-all product. Product quality, serving size, species, existing health conditions, and medications all matter, which is why veterinarian guidance is the safest place to start.

How Long Does It Take for CBD Oil to Work?

Response time can vary depending on your pet’s size, metabolism, feeding schedule, and the amount used. Some pet owners notice changes within 30 minutes, while others monitor over a longer period as they adjust timing and serving size carefully.

Can CBD Oil Interact With My Pet's Medications?

Yes, it can. If your pet takes prescription medications or has an ongoing medical condition, speak with your veterinarian before using CBD oil so you can review possible interactions and monitoring steps.

What Is the Ideal Dosage for My Pet?

The best serving size depends on your pet’s weight, species, sensitivity, and reason for use. Start with the manufacturer’s guidance, begin conservatively, and work with your veterinarian if you need a more tailored plan. Dog owners can also review our essential guide to CBD for dogs, while cat owners can visit our CBD for cats resource.

Are There Any Side Effects of CBD Pet Oil?

CBD Oil Effects: What People Commonly Notice, What Can Vary, and How to Use It Thoughtfully

By Bill Polyniak, founder of Bluegrass Hemp Oil and Kentucky Cannabis Company

Last reviewed: April 9, 2026

If you are researching CBD oil, it helps to start with the right expectation. Most people are not looking for a dramatic moment. They want to know whether CBD oil may fit into a realistic wellness routine and what changes they should pay attention to over time. In practice, the effects people report most often are gradual and routine-based rather than extreme. Many describe a steadier sense of calm, a more manageable evening wind-down, or a more consistent approach to everyday self-care.

That said, CBD oil is not a substitute for medical care, and nonprescription CBD products are not approved by the FDA to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. It is also important to remember that CBD may interact with medications, so anyone who takes prescription drugs, is pregnant or nursing, or is managing an ongoing health condition should speak with a qualified healthcare professional before starting CBD.

Important note: This page is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice. The goal is to help you better understand the kinds of effects people may notice, the factors that influence those effects, and how to choose a format that fits your routine responsibly.

What CBD Oil Effects Do People Commonly Notice?

CBD oil is commonly used as part of a broader wellness plan. The most noticeable effects are often subtle at first. Instead of expecting a sudden shift, it is more useful to watch for patterns such as:

  • A calmer start or finish to the day
  • Less tension during periods of stress
  • A more settled evening routine
  • More consistency in how you approach daily wellness habits
  • A clearer sense of which serving size and schedule feels sustainable

Some people also use CBD oil as part of their approach to general physical comfort. The key point is that individual responses vary. Factors such as serving size, product profile, timing, food intake, body chemistry, and consistency can all shape the experience.

Why the Endocannabinoid System Matters

CBD oil is often discussed in connection with the body’s endocannabinoid system, or ECS. This system is involved in helping the body maintain internal balance across functions such as stress response, sleep, appetite, and overall regulation. If you want a deeper overview of how that system fits into day-to-day wellness, our guide to a Healthy ECS is a useful next step.

Understanding the ECS also helps explain why CBD experiences can differ from person to person. The same product may feel more useful to one person than another because routines, health history, sensitivity, and expectations are different.

Why Product Quality and Profile Matter

Not every CBD oil is built the same way. A product’s cannabinoid and terpene profile can matter just as much as the number of milligrams printed on the label. Many people focus only on total CBD content, but that alone does not tell you whether a formula is broad, balanced, and transparent.

For this reason, it is worth learning about the plant compounds that contribute to a fuller product profile. Cannabinoids and terpenes are an important part of how many people evaluate full-spectrum products. Even if you are comparing oils to other formats, this background can help you read labels more intelligently. Our article on the importance of cannabinoids and terpenes in CBD gummies explains why the overall profile matters, not just the headline number on the front of the package.

When choosing a CBD oil, look for clear labeling, serving information, third-party testing, and product pages that explain exactly what you are taking. A professional brand should make it easy to understand sourcing, testing, and intended routine use.

What Can Change the Experience of CBD Oil?

People often ask why the same oil can feel different from one person to another. In most cases, the answer comes down to a few practical variables:

1. Consistency

CBD oil is often easier to evaluate when used consistently. A one-time serving usually tells you very little. A simple routine gives you a better chance to notice patterns honestly.

2. Serving Size

A serving that feels appropriate for one person may not feel appropriate for another. Starting low and making gradual adjustments is generally more useful than changing too much at once.

3. Time of Day

Some people prefer CBD oil earlier in the day, while others prefer it later in the evening. The best time is usually the time that best supports consistency and fits naturally into the rest of your routine.

4. Product Format

CBD oil offers flexibility, but it is not the only option. Some people prefer a liquid format because it allows more control over serving size. Others prefer pre-measured products that feel easier to carry and easier to repeat.

CBD Oil Is Not the Only Format

For many people, CBD oil is a practical starting point because it offers flexibility. But there are also situations where another format may be a better fit. If taste is a barrier or you want a more grab-and-go option, gummies or capsules may be worth considering.

For example, some readers prefer a chewable format that feels familiar and easy to keep in a daily routine. If that sounds like you, take a look at our Elderberry CBD Gummies page for an example of a pre-measured gummy option.

Others prefer a supplement-style format with a fixed serving size and no dropper to measure. If that approach fits your day better, our complete guide to 25mg CBD oil capsules explains what to look for and who tends to prefer capsule-based routines.

Choosing between oil, gummies, and capsules does not have to be complicated. The best format is usually the one you can use consistently, understand clearly, and fit into your day without friction.

What About Physical Comfort and Localized Discomfort?

Some people look into CBD oil because they are trying to support general physical comfort. In that case, it is important to separate broad wellness questions from localized concerns. A whole-body routine may call for one approach, while a targeted issue may call for another.

For instance, if your main concern is a more specific area of discomfort rather than general wellness support, it can help to read condition-specific educational content before deciding on a format. Our comprehensive guide to foot pain offers a more focused discussion for readers thinking through localized support.

Safety, Side Effects, and Medication Considerations

A professional conversation about CBD oil should always include safety. While many people tolerate CBD well, it is still important to approach it carefully. Side effects can happen, and the FDA has also noted that CBD can affect how other drugs work in the body.

Potential concerns may include drowsiness, digestive discomfort, and changes in how medications are metabolized. That is why medical guidance matters, especially for people taking prescriptions that carry warnings about liver metabolism or sedation.

If you are unsure whether CBD oil fits your situation, the most responsible next step is to review your medications and supplement routine with your healthcare professional before use.

How to Evaluate CBD Oil More Honestly

If you are trying to decide whether CBD oil is right for you, keep the evaluation simple. Instead of chasing big promises, focus on a few straightforward questions:

  • Does the product clearly explain serving size and ingredients?
  • Can you use it consistently without complicating your routine?
  • Are you paying attention to patterns over time rather than one isolated use?
  • Have you considered whether oil, gummies, capsules, or a topical format makes the most sense for your goals?
  • Have you reviewed possible medication interactions before starting?

Approaching CBD this way usually leads to better decisions. It shifts the focus away from hype and toward routine, fit, and product quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CBD oil create an immediate feeling?

Not always. Many people describe the experience as subtle rather than dramatic. It is often more useful to watch for patterns over time than to expect a strong immediate sensation.

Is CBD oil better than gummies or capsules?

Not necessarily. CBD oil offers flexibility with serving size, while gummies and capsules are often preferred for convenience and consistency. The best choice depends on the routine you are most likely to follow.

What should I look for on a CBD label?

Look for clear serving information, cannabinoid content, third-party testing, and transparent product details. A credible product page should help you understand what is in the formula and how it is intended to be used.

Can CBD oil be part of a broader wellness routine?

Many people use CBD oil alongside habits such as sleep hygiene, movement, hydration, and daily self-care. It generally works best when viewed as one part of a broader routine rather than as a shortcut.

Final Thoughts

CBD oil effects are best understood through a practical lens. For most people, the real question is not whether CBD oil creates a dramatic moment, but whether it fits into a thoughtful, consistent routine. Product quality, profile, serving size, and expectations all matter. So does knowing when another format may be a better match.

If you want to keep learning, start with the basics of self-care, explore how product profile influences the experience in our guide to cannabinoids and terpenes in CBD gummies, or compare alternative formats such as elderberry CBD gummies and 25mg CBD oil capsules.
