Our Executive Director, Adriane Polyniak, was recently asked by Incredible Edibles to address the often cited benefit of CBD as a weight loss supplement. With so many proven benefits – mood/sleep regulation, anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiolytic, anti-epileptic, etc, etc, one really can’t be too careful with claims made with regard to CBD.

“CBD is not a traditional weight loss supplement. That being said, many consumers report weight loss as a welcomed “side effect” once they add CBD into their daily routine. The reason being, CBD interacts with our Endocannabinoid System (ECS) – a system of physiology that is responsible for maintaining the body’s homeostasis, or balance. Functions like sleep, mood, and appetite are typically the first to see improvements when taking a quality CBD product.

What makes this system even more interesting is that it has bidirectional effects, so in order for the ECS to be able to maintain cellular balance, it has the capacity to influence physiology in opposite directions. For example, high and low blood pressure, or in this case, appetite suppressant or appetite stimulant. The body will respond accordingly to what is needed to bring it back into balance. Our consumers have reported less cravings and therefore less snacking, which for them has resulted in weight loss. On the flip side, we have had a few consumers who were struggling with being TOO thin who have been able to add on pounds and bring them to a healthier weight.”
