CBD vs. CBDa
The phytocannabinoids within the cannabis plant exist in both acidic and neutral states. Though most people are familiar with the neutral components of this versatile plant (CBD and THC,) the acidic compounds of cannabis (CBDa) have differing, and in some cases more beneficial, healing properties.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is potentially the most well-known cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Well-researched and suggested as a highly beneficial therapeutic supplement, we, as a society, have gained quite an extensive amount of knowledge pertaining to this cannabinoid. CBD influences a person’s (or animal’s) endocannabinoid system to offer a variety of regulatory and balancing functions within the body. CBD is used all across the globe to provide relief from pain, inflammation, insomnia, seizures, and anxiety.
Cannabidiolic Acid (or CBDa) is an acidic compound produced by cannabis plant varieties. Similar to CBD for its notable therapeutic healing properties, more and more people are finding the presence of CBDa in their current hemp extracts–it’s because producers are jumping on the CBDa bandwagon, realizing all of the benefits this cannabinoid holds for their customers. Unlike CBD, CBDa does not regulate the endocannabinoid system by latching on to receptors; however, it interacts with the COX-2 enzymes, much like over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs.
Benefits of CBDa
Although both CBD and CBDa contain anti-inflammatory properties, when consumed orally, CBDa is said to be better absorbed within the body (when compared to CBD.) It has been suggested that CBDa’s potency is much stronger when confronting pain, nausea, and anxiety, working well to improve inflammation, mood function, gut health, tissue recovery, and cognition.
If you’re actively consuming THC, a CBDa product might be better suited for you. While CBD has been determined to diminish the psychoactive effects of THC, CBDa does not hold this same power.
